'Aqua Plate Special' Raises Funds For Oregon Wetlands

Restaurants Partner with The Wetlands Conservancy for American Wetlands Month

Portland, Ore. (February 28, 2011) -

What: Forget the Blue Plate special -- this May Oregon restaurants will offer a sustainable seafood version, the Aqua Plate Special. To honor American Wetlands Month and The Wetlands Conservancy's 30th anniversary, the Oregon non-profit is partnering with select restaurants throughout the state for the second annual Aqua Plate Special menu promotion.

Throughout May, participating restaurants will promote one “Aqua Plate Special” menu item, featuring sustainable seafood whose habitat is dependent upon the health of Oregon’s estuaries, and from which a portion of proceeds will be donated to The Wetlands Conservancy (TWC). The participating chefs will create delicious dishes highlighting some of the region's most sustainable seafood, including:

Oregon Oysters

Oregon Dungeness Crab

Oregon Pink Shrimp

Wild-caught Salmon

This educational fundraising campaign is designed to raise money for TWC and increase awareness around the vital connection between healthy wetlands and Oregon’s iconic and beloved seafood. Without thriving estuaries and wetlands there can be no thriving local seafood industry. All participating restaurants share in this commitment to preserve Oregon’s wetlands, and will be announced in April on TWC’s website www.wetlandsconservancy.org.
