Mother’s Bistro & Bar and Mama Mia Trattoria Win Business Leadership Award

Portland, OR (December 21, 2009) – Lisa Schroeder’s downtown restaurants, Mother’s Bistro & Bar and Mama Mia Trattoria, have been named “Civil Rights Champions” by the Oregon Bureau of Labor Industries (BOLI) in the 2009 Business Leadership Awards.

The annual BOLI awards are designed to recognize businesses that go above and beyond to support civil rights and equal opportunity, create fair workplaces and develop Oregon's workforce through employee training, especially for women and minorities.

“I’ve always wanted to help people, and am thrilled that I found a way -- by using my restaurant spaces for fundraisers that support civil rights and justice for all,” says executive chef/owner and cookbook author Lisa Schroeder.

In addition to running two downtown restaurants and recently releasing her first cookbook “Mother’s Best: Comfort Food That Takes You Home Again,” Lisa Schroeder is an active member in the Portland community. She is one of the founders of the Bridges of Hope Campaign for the Bradley Angle House, honorary chair of the Our House Dinner Series, represents downtown small businesses on the Street Access For Everyone (S.A.F.E.) and frequently donates her time to a variety of other local organizations such as Basic Rights Oregon, the Cascade Aids Project and Taste of The Nation. In 2006, the Portland Business Journal named Lisa Schroeder ‘Businesswoman of the Year.’
